Joe DiPinto was appointed Director of Wilmington’s Office of Economic Development by Mayor James M. Baker in August 2006, following the announcement of his plan to retire after 20 years in the Delaware House of Representatives.

A native of Naamans, Delaware, Joe received a BS in Chemical Engineering from The U. of Notre Dame and was employed by the DuPont Company for 36 years. He retired from DuPont in 1990 as Development Programs Manager in the Specialty Polymers Division. Most of his career involved new polymer applications and development, and he holds 3 patents.

Joe served on the Wilmington City Council from 1973 through 1986, and as a State Representative in Delaware’s General Assembly from 1987 through 2006. He chaired the Housing and Community Affairs, Appropriation Committees and was the co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee for eight years.

Joe has served as an appointee to DE’s Science and Technology Council, the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture, the Riverfront Development Commission, the Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Delaware Science and Technology Commission. In addition, Joe also is President of the Wilmington UDAG Corp. and Board member of Wilmington Renaissance Corp., Downtown Visions, WEDCO, and the Christina Gateway Corp.

Joe also serves on the Boards of St. Francis Hospital, Ronald McDonald House (Advisory), Ministry of Caring, Sacred Heart Village, Salvation Army, and WHYY.

Joe and his wife, Pat. will shortly celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary, and continue to enjoy their five children and five grandchildren.

Joe’s remaining goal is to shoot his age in golf.
