Nicholas Caggiano, Sr., was born in New Jersey. He graduated from Penns Grove High School and then went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Salem College in West Virginia.
He moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE in 1964 after getting married. When first settling in the area he taught English and Social Studies until he and his wife, Joan, opened Nicola Pizza in 1971. The business will be celebrated its 38th year in June and has been very successful. Nicola Pizza was featured on the front page and as the feature story of Nation’s Business magazine in June, 1979. The business also was featured in a documentary film entitled, “Small Business Keeps America Working”, produced by Oscar-nominated Director, Larry Cowe.
Nicola Pizza has 8 registered trademarks, the most famous being the “Nic-o-boli”. Nick Caggiano also was named “Restaurateur of the Year” for the Delaware Restaurant Association.
Nick is involved in many community organizations. He is a member of the finance committee at St. Edmund’s Catholic Church, was previously the Deputy District Governor of 22D of the Lions Club, is a member of WEDCO, and is a wine judge at the annual Jazz Festival at Dover Downs.
Also, in the past Nick has voluntarily used his knowledge of the Italian Language to be an interpreter for the Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE and for the United States Coast Guard.
Nick is married to Joan Caggiano and they have two children, Nick, Jr. and Camille. Nick also has two grandchildren, Vincent and Julia.
He is proud to be an original charter member on the Commission and hopes to use his position to educate others on Italian Heritage and Culture.
