The Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture was invited to speak to a class entitled “Ethnic Delaware” at the University of Delaware’s OSHER Lifelong Learning on October 7th in Wilmington to discuss how Italian Americans contributed to our state and region.
Among the speakers were Chairman DiLiberto and Commissioners Caggiano, Mataleno-Clerc and Gambacorta, who each gave a personal presentation on their backgrounds including areas where families came from, Italian immigration to Delaware, employment, neighborhoods, schools, art, music, cuisine and culture. The role of Italian Americans, including Caesar Rodney, in Delaware’s history, and more recently during the establishment of Wilmington’s “Little Italy,” was discussed.
